How to stop fake tickets at the gate.
At paid campus events in Nigeria, the gate is where things go wrong: forwarded screenshots, fake payments, duplicate entries. The fix is a unique, scan-once ticket per guest.

The problem
When tickets are sold through WhatsApp alerts, payment screenshots, or name lists, gate attendants face a simple problem: how do you know this person actually paid? Common issues include:
- Forwarded screenshots. One payment screenshot can be sent to multiple people. Without a unique code, there is no way to tell them apart at the door.
- Fake bank alerts. In a WhatsApp-based setup, a fake alert in a group chat can look like a real payment.
- Manual name lists. Gate attendants scroll through a list of names while people queue. It is slow, and it is easy to miss someone who was added after the list was printed or screenshot.
How scan-once QR tickets fix it
On UNITIC, every ticket is a unique QR code. When a buyer completes checkout, they receive a QR ticket that is tied to their purchase. Here is what makes it work:
- Unique per ticket. Each QR code is generated for one specific ticket — not shared across buyers.
- Single-use. The first scan marks the ticket as used. The same QR cannot be scanned again.
- Rejection of copies. A screenshot of a QR code will not work if the original has already been scanned. This means forwarded images and duplicates don’t get through.
What the gate attendant sees
When the organizer scans a guest’s QR code, the system checks whether it is valid and unused. If it is, the guest is marked as checked in. If the code has already been scanned, the system rejects it. There is no ambiguity and no manual list to consult.
